Tips for Finding Arrowheads Near You
An article giving general tips on finding arrowheads near you fun and profit.
To begin an arrowhead search in your area try to locate areas of Indian camps or areas where arrowheads may have been manufactured. If you have no idea where to start look for areas near your home with Native American names. Then go online or to your local library and research the origin of the name. More than likely it was named after or by a local tribe that was active in the area. A good researcher may be able to turn up sites of camps or battle locations where arrowheads and other tools may be found.
The next step to finding arrowheads is to get permission to look for arrowheads in that area. Plowed fields are a great place to look for arrowheads but farmers may be reluctant. Try to hit them up early in the spring when fields are first plowed but not yet planted and you won't be harming anything just walking around. Another place to hit is where potatoes are planted as they must be plowed up to harvest. This may allow you to have access at other times of the year as potatoes are harvested at varying times throughout the year. If you are unable to access fields few people will mind if you wander around on stream banks if you stay out of their fields. If you live in an urban area don't despair. New construction will disturb the ground near roads and other easily accessible places that you can check out for arrowheads. If you are looking for arrowheads on publicly owned lands be certain to check regulations on keeping what you find.
