Sacramento Ghost Hunter’s Top Five Haunted Drive-bys

Reluctant ghost hunting sleuths roam Sacramento's dark shadows for answers to the past this Halloween.

My reluctant ghost hunting sleuths are reassembling again this year for our annual Haunted Drive-by. This Halloween Night we're combing Sacramento for a once-in-a-lifetime glimpse of disembodied spirits.

Our Haunted Drive-by snack list includes olive oil popcorn, ice cold Hansen's Natural Sodas and Hershey's Dark Chocolate bars. Hey, we're three menopausal Women looking for some ghostly action!

My friend, Tonia, with her handy Nikon Cool Pix camera in hand, will be in charge of capturing ghosts digitally. Jen, a psychic, will help us feel our way around the haunted City of Trees, and I'll provide the intel on our destinations and the spirits we hope to encounter.

Our first stop will be the former home of Sacramento's most notorious serial killer; Dorothea Puentes in downtown Sacramento. Although Puentes died in prison and her former burial ground has been covered in concrete, there's no burying the fact that her acts of greed and murder resulted in the gruesome deaths of seven people! Puentes, a former Madame and convict, went to her grave without confessing the extent of her sins. Will she appear at her old home and scare the lemonade out of us?

While hunting ghosts in Downtown Sacramento, we'll have to drive-by the Delta King River Boat. It's now a floating hotel and banquet hall. The burgundy floors with mahogany and brass décor literally beckons spirits to return from a by-gone age. The ghost of a girl who went missing nearly a hundred years ago is our priority contact. The girl manifests to startled staff members and appears to be looking for her father. Maybe we can point her to the light.

According to eyewitnesses, there's a ferocious ghost pit-bull that roams the graves at the Sacramento Cemetery. I'm wondering if the dog belongs to the ghost couple dressed in black and if they are the parents of the young girl that playfully darts up from behind headstones. With so many graves dating back to the mid 1800s of Sacramento's oldest cemetery, odds are my team will come away with our own ghostly introductions.

East Sacramento still shudders at the name Richard Trenton Chase and rightfully so. The legendary Vampire of Sacramento reportedly abused drugs, broke into his victims homes, murdered them, drank their blood and ate their remains. Chase's victims included a pregnant woman, a mother and two young children. Sketchy manifestations of Chase lurking in the moonlight shadows of East Sacramento have been reported.

The clammy Tunnels of Sacramento will be the final stop on our drive-by. The tunnels offer a creepy ghost tour until 9 p.m. I'm looking forward to the promised visit with murder victims (portrayed by actors). Who knows? Maybe we'll discover a ghost of our very own.
