2020-2020 Colorado Dove Hunting Season
The 2020 Dove Hunting Season in Colorado takes place during the months of September and October.
In order to legally take part in the 2020 dove hunting season in Colorado, the hunter must have a Colorado Small Game License, a Colorado Combination Fish and Small Game License or a Colorado Life-time Small Game and Fishing License. These hunters will also be required to have a validated Harvest Inventory Program certificate and a Colorado Wildlife Habitat Stamp if they are from the age of 16 to 64. A Colorado Small Game Hunting License costs $21 and is valid from the first day of April through the last day of March of the following year. Colorado dove hunters who were born after December 31, 1948 must also have successfully completed a hunter's education program and proof of successfully completing this course must be in the dove hunters possession while they are hunting in Colorado.
Not only does the dove hunter in Colorado need to be aware of the licensing requirements to legally hunt doves in this state, they must know all about the season dates, bag limits, possession limits and what can legally be used to take these birds. These hunters will also need to identify the particular dove species found in Colorado so that they can make decisions on what dove to shoot and how many they legally can take since each species of dove have different bag limits, possession limits and even season dates.
The 2020 dove hunting season in Colorado begins 30 minutes before the sunrises on September 1, 2020 and closes at sunset on October 31, 2020. Dove hunters can legally hunt dove each day from 30 minutes prior to sunrise until sunset and can take a daily bag limit of 15 Mourning Doves and White-winged Doves with a possession limit of 30 doves. But, dove hunters in Colorado can hunt take an unlimited number of Eurasian Collared-dove during these same hours and days as well as December 1, 2020 through the end of February 2020. Dove hunters can use a shotgun that is a 10 gauge or smaller and only holds 3 shells in the chamber and magazine combined to take doves in Colorado, or they can use hand-held bows as long as the arrow or bowstring has no mechanical means of being held or drawn or they can even crossbows. These hunters can also enjoy taking doves by hawking during the same season as other hunting techniques, but they only have a 3 bird daily bag limit and a 6 bird possession limit. These limits are also included in the shooting daily bag limit and possession limit, not separate.
