Understand the Most Common Mistakes in Ghost Hunting
There are a few common mistakes that should be made aware of in the paranormal community as so many people are starting to involve themselves in this field. But with their lack of knowledge and experience, they often make many costly mistakes.
The reasons for this is pretty simple as the destruction of their group is generally caused by being in it for the wrong reasons and lack of knowledge. It is this lack of knowledge that causes people to look foolish and to relay wrong information to the general public. It does not do anyone any good to go about investigations in an ill manner. In order to make the best out of any paranormal investigation and to give you the best chance at becoming successful, you need to follow some pretty simple rules.
The most important thing is that you never travel out to perform an investigation on your own. While this may seem obvious, it is something that a lot of people tend to overlook and this is terrible for two main reasons. First off, if you get hurt in any way, shape, or form, there is no one there to help you. Secondly, if you are witness to paranormal activity, there is no one else that was around to help back up what your claims are.
Then there is the issue of trespassing. A lot of beginner ghost hunters seem to forget the meaning of private property as soon as they load themselves up with a digital camera and a flashlight. Private property is just that, it's private and should always be treated with respect. If you want to investigate a private property, just simply ask the property owner and if you do not know off hand who that is, check the property out at your local courthouse to find that information.
A big no-no during an investigation is smoking. While this is common sense to some people, there are paranormal investigators who feel it is just fine to smoke. This simply does not make good sense as they of course end up looking at their pictures and will claim they have ecto or orbs. Also, another big mistake is that of using old cassette tapes when recording EVPs. It is not worth having bleed through and ruining evidence or having false evidence because you want to save a few bucks on tapes. Simple take the time and the money and always use new tapes.
A lot of new investigators find they get a lot of cool effects or evidence but they are simply not paying attention to everything that is around them. You should always check out your investigation location in the light before heading out in the dark. Pay special attention to shiny objects and things that are reflective. And last but not least, not everything that is strange looking on film, whether it is still film or from a camcorder, is paranormal evidence. Not every "orb" is a spirit, as dust, rain, sleet, pollen, bugs, dirt, and such can appear "orb" like. If you want to be taken seriously, find the truth, and provide the public and your clients with proper information, you need to take a good in-depth look at all of your evidence before claiming to have captured the image of a ghost.
