How to Record Ghost Voices and Audio with EVP
Article gives basic advice for recording ghost voices and sounds with EVP.
A battery operated voice recorder that is able to produce a copy is essential. A recorder that uses cassette tapes or that can store data to be downloaded to a computer is a must. Some inexpensive voice records can only record and play, while not worthless they are of little use to a serious ghost hunter. The digital voice recorders are perhaps better than a cassette recorder as there is little machine noise to be captured (from the turning tape, etc.). The ghost hunter with a tape recorder will need to use an external microphone to lessen the machine noise of their tape. A useable tape recorder for ghost hunting will cost about twenty dollars and a digital one will cost about forty dollars. Recorders that ghost hunters can use are available at large retailers, office supply stores, and other retail locations.
Once you have acquired a suitable recorder it is time to find a ghost that wants to talk! Set up the recorder in a room and wait quietly while noting any sounds that you actually hear. Examples might be a loud passing car, an animal scurrying across the floor (and your resulting scream), and other non-paranormal noise. Remember to sit far enough away to not end up on the tape yourself while writing. Another method is to carry the recorder and ask question of the spirit(s) including asking them to speak to you or make their presence known.
Once you have conducted your search listen to the data with high quality speakers or ear phones so that you can detect the smallest noises. Depending on what listening options that you have, use the settings on you player to listen to the tape in different ways to hear things that may have been missed.
