10 Doe Hunting Tips for Better Results

Article gives information and doe hunting tips.

While most stands that are used for buck hunting can be used successfully for doe hunting, it is often easier to simply hunt food sources for does. Bucks will often hang back in the woods until dark, but does often will come out to feed early when there is still plenty of shooting light. If you hunt in forested areas, finding preferred food sources can provide all day hunting. White oak trees, persimmons trees, and fruit trees make a great stand location for doe hunting.

Doe hunting also provides a relatively risk free way to gain experience still hunting. Jumping a buck in buck season can often mean a ruined day, but jumped does will often run a short distance, stop, and present a shot. Plus, as there are more does in virtually every hunting area still hunting is likely to be more productive. Still hunting does helps you to gain experience and skill in moving through the woods quietly, spotting bedded or standing deer, and to explore your hunting area. Doe hunting also provides an opportunity to scout bucks for future hunting trips.

One great tip to add more challenge to your doe hunting is to downgrade your weapon. Unless I have freezer room to fill, I always put away my scoped high-powered rifle and doe hunt with my muzzleloader. Where I hunt we have a muzzleloader season, but doe season allows me more time in the woods with my muzzleloader. Doe season is also a great time to use an old gun that has been neglected in the back of the gun cabinet, to hunt with a handgun, or to hunt with a bow. (Of course, check your local regulations to make certain these methods are legal in your area)

Doe hunting isn't just a deer season for kids, but is a great time for any hunter regardless of skill level to hit the woods.
